Jean Potts Memorial Trophy 2011

Jean Potts was a popular and successful bowls player for the Wilmslow Conservative Club and the Cheshire leagues for many years, but sadly in December 2005 Jean died suddenly.

The Potts Bowls Knockout Competition for Mixed Pairs was created in 2007 to commemorate Jean's memory, providing an opportunity for bowling enthusiasts from the surrounding area to compete for the Jean Potts Memorial Trophy.

As usual the event was in aid of the British Heart Foundation. The raffle raised £210, enhanced by a donation of £50 from food sales organised by the lady bowlers. In the last five years over £600 has been raised by this competition for the BHF charity.

Yet again the weather smiled on competitors and crowd alike, delivering another beautiful late May day.

Always a very popular event in the bowling calendar, this year saw 28 pairs battling for the trophy. Worthy winners by the end of the day were Jack and Pat Bennett from Stockport.

On completion of the final match Jean's son, and event organiser, Alan Potts stepped forward with Club Chairman David Spencer to present the Jean Potts Memorial Trophy to the winners and very attractive, individual bowling trophies to all finalists.

Photographs of the day's activities are can be viewed in this slideshow.
