Wilmslow Conservative Hall Bazaar

Remember 1924? Not many of us do. But that was the year of the Wilmslow Conservative Bazaar at the Club's Conservative Hall.

I've mentioned the Conservative Hall, the forerunner to our existing premises, in previous entries such as the aerial photographs of the site and a photograph of members taken inside the building.

However, recently Chairman David Spencer uncovered a long forgotten box of old newspaper clippings and faded photographs from this very year. Hidden amongst this collection was an eight page brochure advertising the Wilmslow Conservative Bazaar, held on the 28th and 29th November 1924.

And what a find it is. Its pages are chock full of interesting information regarding the event's activities, entertainment, participants and prices. There are even a few quotes from notable individuals of the period.

In particular it contains literally scores of names including honoured guests, club officials, club patrons, committee members, entertainment organisers, raffle organisers, raffle donors, stallholders and refreshment helpers.

It's clear this was a major undertaking for the Club, involving hundreds of people, and must have been one of the most significant events of the 1924 in the Wilmslow area.

The front page of this brochure is shown below, but there's a PDF document containing all eight pages.
