Wetherby Races Outing

Following the success of prevoius autumn race outings the Club's intrepid racegoers decided to broaden their horizons and organise a spring trip to Wetherby Races on 28th April.

The race course is situated some distance from the town itself, and it's tempting hostelries. This meant everyone arrived in plenty of time for the first race - something that often doesn't always happen at the Uttoxeter event.

However, by this time certain memebers of the party were eager to seek refreshment from a variety of on-course bars and food outlets.

The weather certainly could have been kinder for a late-April event. Nevertheless, by ignoring the bitter wind and occasional shower everyone enjoyed the day and racing entertainment, which included entrance to the Bramham Stand, Parade Ring, Winners Enclosure and Main Betting Ring.

The aim of relieving bookmakers of their money didn't quite go to plan, despite Chairman David Spencer enjoying some encouraging success early in the day. Maybe next time.

Still, nobody lost nobody actually lost their shirt, which was a bonus on such a chilly day.

Thanks go to Keith Parrott for, once again, organising the whole trip.

And I'm sure we'll start to organise a new outing soon, so keep a watchful eye on the Club's various notice boards.
